Dirth of Eyes

I can admit it now...not many persons stop here. I guess not having a blogroll plays a large part of that, but I don't know much about doing it.

Experienced bloggers: Do you just butt in and link to any old blog you happen to like?
Is there blogging etiquette about linking? Is the blogroll something official? How do people build up so may linked sites?

These are serious questions; I am a blogosphere virgin (but willing to experiment!)

I am going to take this as a direct question since I am one of two people who read your site ;-) (I tease!)

The way I deal with my blogroll is thus: I use it as a starting place for myself. These are sites that either I like and visit OR they are sites that link to me and I am reciprocating 'cause I am a nice person. The one thing I have noticed is the more people I have on my blogroll, the lower my Google Page Rank goes, so I delink people from time to time to try to perserve my ranking of 5. The reason I delink is more or less because the other blog has delinked me, the bastard or if I have lost interest in a blog. I don't ever ask to link to a site, I just link to it. I do this because when the person finds me on Technorati or their referrer logs, it's a little surprise, like an Easter Egg. Besides, who is going to get angry because you are sending them your traffic?

Do look into Blogrolling.com-- it's an easy way to build a blogroll.

Outstanding info #2. I did not direct it (soley) at you, but I do know you are experienced. I've read years of your life @ donnaville! :^)

Really? Years? Well, I have been doing the blogging thing for a very long time! I guess I am experienced... (at least I'm experienced in one area of my life! :-)) AND I also have *5* regular readers! One day Eric, you may achieve the big 5-- just like me ;-)
